St. Kitts-Nevis To Send Contingent To CARIFESTA XIII
St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN); CARIFESTA XIII officially opens on Thursday (Aug 17), however officials in St. Kitts only on Wednesday afternoon gave approval for a contingent to travel to Barbados for the multi-national cultural event.
WINN FM understands that the initial plan was for a contingent of over 50 persons to travel to represent St. Kitts and Nevis, however an official source has indicated that at such a late date, it is unclear how many persons would be able to make the trip.
It was further relayed that officials are presently trying to organize a charter flight for Thursday as regional carriers were already booked.
CARIFESTA, hosted every two years in a different country, is a cultural festival which showcases music, literary arts, theatre, dance, film and visual arts from across the Diaspora.
CARIFESTA XIII is being held under the theme “Asserting our culture, Celebrating ourselves”.
Recently, Minister of Culture Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards defended the government incurring the expense of sending representatives to participate in CARIFESTA, saying it contributes to the overall development of culture in the region.
