Douglas raps PM Harris for “abusive behaviour” towards lone elected female MP Hon. Marcella Liburd
Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 14, 2017 – Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris “stooped to the level of personally abusing” Hon. Marcella Liburd, the lone elected female in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly on Tuesday.
Former Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Tuesday Dr. Harris “was unparliamentarily in his comments.”
Prime Minister Harris, obviously annoyed, upset, angry and ruffled by the astute presentation of the Central Basseterre MP, and in the presence of the Speaker Hon. Michael Perkins among other statements, abused Ms. Liburd’s brother, the late Mr. Fitzroy Bryant, former Attorney General and Minister of Health and Education and whose name is etched on the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC).
“Simply because she was forthright, strong in her criticism of the Bill, the prime minister himself stooped to the level of abusive behaviour, personally abusing to this lady, unparliamentarily in a lot of his comments. These should not have happened and the Speaker heard him say those things and never for one moment did he stopped him, interrupt him or guide him. Never for one moment,” had Dr. Douglas said during had an interview on Kyss 102.5 FM after the parliamentary opposition walked out of the National Assembly.
“They are attempting to frustrate us, to prevent us from being heard,” said Dr. Douglas.
