Crime ContinuesHarris Example Set, Harris Example Followed!

The Federation continues to suffer disruptions of day to day life by the criminal elements woven into St Kitts-Nevis society whose continued defiance of law and order is a clear indication that the coalition administration has brought the standard of leadership in the country to an all-time low.

The recent revelation of Dr Harris’ implication in the 2018 London Bribery Scandal has been spreading like wildfire since Friday 11th May when the judgement in the case “Hardip Singh aka Peter Virdee v. The National Crime Agency (NCA)” was made public. Following this shocker, the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party issued an official request for the resignation of Dr Harris so as to avoid the compromisation and further tarnishing of the Office of the Prime Minister. Dr Harris boldly refused and continues to refuse to resign the post despite the potentially disastrous implications his continued occupancy of the Prime Minister’s position will have for the country.

On the heels of Dr Harris’ exposed involvement in the bribery scandal, there was a shooting in Challenger’s on St Kitts on Saturday 12th May where a vehicle with two occupants was shot up by armed assailants who were concealed in brush at the side of the road. In Nevis that night, a police constable was stabbed a number of times in the face and about the body with a broken bottle when he attempted to part a fight in a bar on Craddock Road.

Friday 18th May saw Oualie Beach Hotel being robbed by armed assailants. A few days later on Monday 21st May, “New Vibes, Real Vibes” bar in Nevis was also robbed by armed assailants at 3:40 PM in the afternoon. By the end of last week on Friday 25th May, Bird Rock Beach Hotel was held up by armed assailants and robbed of a sizeable sum of money. That same Friday night, an attempt was made on the life of Javed Daniel of Saddler’s Village on St Kitts. Daniel sustained gunshot wounds to the stomach, side and left shoulder. He is currently listed as being in stable condition at the JNF General Hospital after undergoing emergency surgery.

Dr Harris’ refusal to relinquish his position as Prime Minister has further-reaching detrimental implications than many have realised. In his usual short-sighted fashion, he has made a blatantly political decision that clearly communicates a message to the populace that has adverse social implications. By refusing to resign from the post of Prime Minister due to his stated involvement in a bribery discussion between with two wealthy businessmen, Dr Harris is flouting the very ethics and morals which he often claims his administration is trying to incur in the people of SKN.

The Prime Minister’s refusal to resign despite his involvement in an international scandal has served to further empower the criminal elements in our society.
