CARIBBEAN WELLNESS WEEK KICKS OFF ON SEPTEMBER 14
Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 13, 2019 (SKNIS): In attempts to increase awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, which includes a healthy diet and regular exercise, the CARICOM Heads created a day called Caribbean Wellness Day.
The Ministry of Health in St. Kitts and Nevis in support of this initiative to reduce the growing trends in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), is this year celebrating Caribbean Wellness Day with seven days of sensitization activities dubbed “Caribbean Wellness Week”.
This year’s Caribbean Wellness Day will be celebrated on Saturday 14th September 2019 under the theme ‘Healthy Aging Starts Now.’
The activities to commemorate Caribbean Wellness Week are Caribbean Wellness Day Walk on Saturday 14th of September; National Fruit and Vegetable Day on Tuesday 17th September; and National Sneaker Day on Friday 20th September.
As part of the National Fruit and Vegetable Day, there will the judging of the butternut squash dessert competition to take place at 1 pm in front of First Caribbean Bank. All media are invited to judge the competition.
Caribbean Wellness Week is the first of many events that will be organized under the SKN Moves Initiative, which was recently launched in St. Kitts and Nevis. The aim of SKN Moves is to emphasize the importance of increased physical activity, healthy eating and regular health checks in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The Ministry of Health invites the general public to participate in Caribbean Wellness Week 2019.
