Covid-19 protocols: PM Harris pledges support for 25th edition of #7 Domino League
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, July 2, 2020 (MMS-SKN) — The 25th edition of the country’s longest running domino league, Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League, will be held under Covid-19 protocols but league sponsor Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has assured that the tournament this year will be special.
“I am sure that this year’s games would be as exciting as those before, and whatever the executive and the membership require to make it as successful, I am committed to do the best I can because the games being played are for your enjoyment and the enjoyment of the communities and we want the 25th anniversary to be special,” said Dr Harris.
The Honourable Prime Minister, who is also the Area Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Seven, made the remarks on Wednesday evening July 1 at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project when he addressed captains of domino clubs that have confirmed participation in this year’s tournament which will open on Tuesday July 28.
“You have a good executive body at work to ensure that the 25th anniversary of the tournament will be a successful one,” said the Prime Minister. “You will be playing this tournament under new set of circumstances, but everywhere everything that is being done in the world since March and even before that is being done under a new set of reality, and so we just have to adopt.”
The meeting had been called by the league’s Executive Committee, and was presided over by President and League Coordinator Mr Calvin Farrell. Other committee members present were Vice President Mr Simeon ‘Cuban’ Liburd, Secretary Ms Octavia Huggins, Treasurer Mr Keithly Blanchette, and floor member Mr Samuel Wilson.
The sponsor appealed to the captains to heed all medical advice, and noted with pleasure that they had alcohol that was used to sanitise hands, and that all had masks. He advised that if they could get the exact number of players, he would made arrangements to source more masks in case some players forgot to bring their masks along during the games.
With the tournament taking place under the Covid-19 Regulations which call for a curfew from midnight each day, the clubs agreed that this year all the games will start exactly at 7:00 pm and that there will be no grace period, to allow all games to come to an end long before the curfew starts.
As this year’s tournament marks an important milestone, the clubs agreed that they will collectively attend a church service on Sunday July 26 at the Estridge Moravian Church in Mansion. The service will start at 8:30 am and captains were requested to submit, in advance, names of persons who will be attending the service, as the church can hold only 93 worshippers in view of the social distancing protocols in place.
Clubs represented were defending champions Parsons Domino Club, Saddlers Domino Club, Unity Patriots Domino Club, Unstoppable Domino Club, Sylvers Domino Club, Christchurch Domino Club, Molineux Domino Club, Small Corner Domino Club, Guinness Domino Club, Giants Domino Club, Phillips Domino Club, Lodge Domino Club, and Mansion Domino Club.
Tabernacle Domino Club and Ottley’s Domino Club which had indicated interest in taking part in this year’s tournament, after an absence, were not represented.
The next meeting by captains of the domino clubs taking part in the 25th edition of the Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League will be held on Monday July 13 from 7:00 pm at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project.
