St Lucia records another COVID death, 39 new cases

The Ministry of Health today confirmed another COVID-19 related death bringing the total number of fatalities to 47.

Death #47 is a 75-year-old man from the Castries district with underlying medical illnesses. He was in care at the time of his passing.

“The Ministry of Health expresses condolences to the family and loved ones on the passing of this individual,” the Department of Health and Wellness said in a release.

At the same time, the department said the Health Ministry today received confirmation of 39 new cases of COVID-19 from the Ezra Long Laboratory.

These results are from a batch of 186 samples taken on March 8 and March 9, 2021. The samples were processed on March 9, 2021.

Twenty-seven of the cases are inmates from the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

The other twelve individuals are from the community and were seen at various respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 27 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases currently recorded in country to date to 219.  Presently, three of the active cases require critical care at the Respiratory Hospital. The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 3,941.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has announced that as of yesterday March 9, Saint Lucia has vaccinated a total of 10, 437 individuals.

Everyone interested in getting vaccinated is encouraged to pre-register ahead of time via the online platform https://hmi.govt.lc/ or at the nearest Community Wellness Centre.
