COVID-19 VACCINATIONS HIT A RECORD 1062 DOSES ADMINISTERED IN A SINGLE DAY, SAYS PM HARRIS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 26, 2021 (SKNIS):ย Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, reported that 1062 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine were administered in a single day, the most jabs ever taken in a day since the roll-out of the vaccination programme on February 22 of this year.
โToday, we have had the largest number of doses of vaccine administered for the year so far since we have started our vaccination rollout. I am advised that today, we administered 1,062 doses. This is again the largest number of doses that have been administered since we have started the rollout of the programme,โ said Prime Minister Harris, during the May 25 edition of Leadership Matters.
Prime Minister Harris indicated that this was a โcollective effort across the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevisโ which saw the participation of all 17 health centres.
The records for May 25 revealed that 725 persons received their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. In St. Kitts, 67 persons took their first shot at St. Peterโs Health Centre; 35 at Molineux; 94 at Basseterre; 157 at Newtown; 10 at St. Paulโs; 13 at Sandy Point; 26 at Old Road; 10 at Tabernacle; 48 at Cayon; 8 at Dieppe Bay; 10 at Saddlers and 29 at Kajola Kristada. In Nevis, 144 persons received their first shot at Charlestown Health Centre; 53 at Brown Hill and 21 at Combermere. Those receiving their second dose totalled 337 for a total of 1,062.
โThis then is an excellent performance and, in fact, should give all of us who are taking part in this battle against COVID-19 inspiration that all is not lost,โ said Dr. Harris. โI want to commend all the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis who have made a special effort to encourage and who themselves have gone out to be vaccinated.โ
Equally important, Prime Minister Harris noted that St. Kitts and Nevis has crossed the halfway mark in vaccinating more than 50 percent of the target population. Twenty-three thousand, three hundred and forty persons or 51.6 percent of the target population have had their first dose, while 19.1 percent of six thousand, three hundred and five are totally vaccinated.
โThis is an excellent performance by international standards. We have gone further afield than many over the limited period in which we have started this programme. We should all feel a sense of pride in these achievements so far,โ he said. โToday, we had a vote of confidence in my view by the majority, in the excellent work that the government is doing in the battle against the pandemic.โ
Dr. Harris congratulated the health team, the National COVID-19 Task Force, and the society at large for working extremely hard to defeat the pandemic to get St. Kitts and Nevis back to a state of near normalcy.
