Government of St Kitts and Nevis readies for COP28 during upcoming webinar series that focuses on Paris Agreement

BASSETERRE, St Kitts, 21stAugust 2023 – The Government of St Kitts and Nevis, through the Ministry of Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment will participate in a webinar series focusing on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement which covers climate change mitigation, adaptation, and finance. The series will take place on the 22nd, 24th and 29th August, 2023, and hosted by the UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centers.

Each webinar will focus on information-sharing and the readying of delegations for participation in the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as COP28 which convenes in the United Arab Emirates from 30th November to 12th December, 2023.

Webinar one will give an overview of Article 6, which allows countries to cooperate voluntarily in completing their Nationally Determined Contributions that will, in turn, allow for greater relief goals and promote sustainable development. This session will further highlight several obligations for host Parties, in relation to their responsibility to fulfill participation requirements, reporting techniques and the tracking of information.

During Webinar 2, the focus will be specifically geared towards Article 6.4, which is the Mechanism that involves development so far, as well as the work ahead.

Webinar 3 will delve even further into the transition from Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) activities to Article 6.4 Mechanism, which involves procedures and key milestones. CDM Activities refer to the promotion of greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation projects, such as clean energy, energy efficiency, and waste utilization projects.
