Happy International Women’s Day as we truly accelerate action, we should uplift the groups within SKN who are accelerating our society and providing the momentum for progress.
Before I get ahead of myself let me pause to thank the Global Fund for Women represented by Ms. Ayesha Constable, one of the world’s leading foundations for gender equality and is a key champion for the feminist movement in the Caribbean, providing generous financial supportfor 21 groups from Bahamas right down the archipelago to Suriname. This support was facilitated through CIWIL SKN as a fiscal partner and the Caribbean Feminist Climate Justice Movement which is a collective of gender specialists, researchers and organizations informed by feminist and Indigenous knowledge systems that is dedicated to advancing gender equality and climate justice in the Caribbean. We are led by the indomitable Eco-Feminist lead advisor Dr. Joyelle Clark and my counterparts on the advisory committee members include Dr. Angelique Nixon, Mrs. Aria Laidlow-Ferdinand, Mrs. Jhannel Tomlinson, Ms. Marisa Hutchinson, Ms. Nneka Nicholas, Ms. Sasha Middleton, Ms. Shanna Emmanuel, and Tricia Greaux.
I am grateful to be in a position to help shine the light on groups that are operating within the intersection of gender and climate. St. Kitts and Nevis is progressing into a Sustainable Island State and as a just and inclusive society we must recognise the work of female lead, grass roots and marginalized groups especially persons living with disabilities as the catalyst for reform and progress.
The Capisterre Fisherman’s Cooperative Society representing women in the blue economy from rural coastal communities, Garden of Rebirth who support women and children who need support post gender based and domestic violence, and as I speak today there is a delegation are on route to represent St. Kitts and Nevis at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) 2025 and the SKN Reef Guardians who serve both islands, with a special focus on women & youth advocacy and marine conservation.”
Join me in congratulating all of these groups as the come up to receive a token of our appreciation.
