MORE COUNTRIES, INCLUDING FRANCE, MOROCCO AND MEXICO, CONGRATULATE ST. KITTS AND NEVIS ON ANNIVERSARY OF ITS 38TH INDEPENDENCE DAY
Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 17, 2021 (SKNIS): More allies of St. Kitts and Nevis have offered congratulatory messages to the Government and people on its celebration of 38 years of Independence, which is on September 19.
In a congratulatory letter to Governor-General of St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton GCMG, CVO, QC, JP, LL. D, King of the Kingdom of Morocco His Excellency Mohammed VI said on behalf of the Moroccan people:
“As St. Kitts and Nevis commemorate its Independence, it gives me great pleasure to send you my warmest congratulations and to wish the people of St. Kitts and Nevis further progress and prosperity,” said King Mohammed VI. “I am deeply satisfied with the relations rooted in friendship and cooperation between our countries. I am sure Your Excellency is as keen as I am to strengthen these ties in order to serve our peoples’ shared interests and contribute to greater cooperation and solidarity between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Caribbean Community.”
The Embassy of France to the Eastern Caribbean states, to Barbados and the OECS, in residence in Saint Lucia, with a letter addressed from His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic to the Governor-General of St. Kitts and Nevis, H.E. Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton, President Macron expressed:
“I hope that we will be able to continue to develop cooperation, in collaboration with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States and the French Departments of the Americas in the fight against the effects of climate change, environmental preservation and the fight against trafficking, all of which are common challenges that justify strengthening regional cooperation.”
His Excellency Macron reiterated France’s commitment “to continue its support for energy transition by promoting the development of geothermal energy and interconnection protection between States and Communities of the region.
Important to note is the commendation by President Macron for the actions taken by St. Kitts and Nevis in the “fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He added, “In the face of this challenge, we must unite our efforts and continue to bring the international community together.”
In a communique to Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, The Director-General of the Agency for Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL) conveyed:
“I have the honour to express to Your Excellency the heartfelt congratulations of the Agency for Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean on the occasion of the 38 Anniversary of Independence of Saint Kitts and Nevis on 19th September 2021, as well as our more sincere wishes of well-being and prosperity to the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis.”
OPANAL, which has its headquarters in Mexico City, was created as a result of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, which was ratified in 1969, and essentially aims to prohibit and prevent the testing, use, storage, or transport of nuclear weapons in the region.
