Today in a special ceremony we formally recognized the reinstatement status of Licensed Registered Nurses, who were discriminated against in 2013 and 2015.
In 2013, several nurses from Saint Kitts and Nevis pursued training opportunities in Cuba to further their medical education and skills, gaining General Nursing Certificates, and Associate Degrees in Nursing, but were not recognized by the St. Christopher and Nevis Nurses and Midwives Council upon returning to the Federation. However, only those who completed the Bachelor of Science Degrees in Nursing were licensed with the St. Christopher and Nevis Nurses and Midwives Council in 2013, but their licensures were rescinded in 2015.
The reinstatement of their licenses not only recognizes their competence but also underscores our collective commitment to supporting and empowering our healthcare professionals. To our remarkable nurses – thank you for your service, thank you for your commitment, and thank you for your indomitable spirit.

A Milestone Moment at JNF General Hospital 
This morning, JNF General Hospital was filled with an atmosphere of triumph, resilience, and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. A brief yet deeply meaningful ceremony took place, marking the end of a long, arduous journey for 10 phenomenal nurses who fought tirelessly to realize their dreams of becoming Registered Nurses in our Federation.
From Cuba to the Federation 
These nurses had all studied and earned Certificates in General Nursing, Associate Degrees, Bachelor of Science, Nursing from esteemed universities in Cuba. The struggle arose when they returned home, only to be told they did not qualify to become Registered Nurses, even while Cuban nationals trained at the same institutions were being appointed as Staff Nurses across our health sector.
Unyielding Support
Today’s ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries who have been instrumental in rectifying this discrepancy. Prime Minister and Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, The Principal Nursing Officer Dr. Rhondalyn Bradshaw, and Dr. Jenson Morton, Director of Health Institutions were all in attendance. Officials from the Nursing Council and the loving family members of our new Registered Nurses also filled the room, contributing to the uplifting energy of the event.
Breaking Barriers, Making History
The occasion wasn’t merely a certification ceremony; it was a testament to perseverance, to the undying human spirit that strives against all odds. The eyes of every newly registered nurse gleamed with victory as they were handed their certificates, symbolizing far more than a paper acknowledgement – it represented years of sacrifice, struggle, and an unwavering commitment to their calling – Nursing.

Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew spoke eloquently about the need for transparent and equitable systems in healthcare, promising to advocate for policies that are fair to all, irrespective of nationality. Dr. Rhondalyn Bradshaw took the podium to express their admiration for the tenacity shown by these new healthcare heroes.
Family and Unity
The ceremony concluded with touching speeches by family members, who spoke of the sacrifices made at the family level to support these warriors in their quest. There was not a dry eye in the house as loved ones hugged and photos were taken to capture this historical moment.
