SUGAR GIRLZ BACK IN ACTION WITH CONCACAF WOMEN’S GOLD CUP
The Sugar Girlz will soon be in action once again, this time in qualifiers for the inaugural Concacaf Gold Cup.
Their first assignment is to Costa Rica on Monday September 25th but the team is expected to travel later this week. SKNFA Technical Director Lenny Taylor said preparations have been going well with the girls, who have long resumed training at the SKNFA Technical Center. “Preparation has started. Coach (Samuel Phipps and Al Richards) are putting the girls through their paces and of course with international football you have to join parts of the team. You have local players; you have overseas based players and (Coach Phipps) is putting the local based players through their paces. They look good, they seem to be very enthusiastic and we are looking forward to a rebirth of women’s football in St. Kitts and Nevis,” Taylor said.
Mr. Taylor said this is an important match for both players and coach understand it’s significance. “It’s a very important game owing to the fact that Costa Rica is just coming from the Women’s Gold Cup in Australia and they have been working together. This will be an important match to kick off the Women’s Gold Cup. The girls understand that, the coaching staff understands that,” he said. The Sugar Girls will also play Haiti in two legs later this year and a return leg at home against Costa Rica.
