STEP plays an important role in the country’s development says Hon Grant
Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 15, 2019 (S.T.E.P.) — Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce the Hon Lindsay Grant is saying the Skills Training Empowerment Programme (STEP) is an important programme and those on it will be given opportunities to acquire certification that will make them marketable not only at home, but throughout the region.

Cabinet met on March 11 and entertained a delegation from LIAT. LIAT is seeking a capital injection to fund the airline over the coming months. The four shareholder governments, namely, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica wished the Federation to consider burden sharing as a means of retaining connectivity within the islands and staving off insolvency. After the presentation, Cabinet set up a committee shared by the Financial Secretary and members drawn from the Ministry of Tourism, St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) and the Office of the Prime Minister. The committee was given the mandate to examine the scheduling, financials and other models of MRGs (Minimum Return Guarantees) and advise the Cabinet on the way forward.

Caribbean Green Tech Start-up Bootcamp is an avenue to assist entrepreneurs to have clean tech solutions that can assist in the mitigation or adaptation to climate change. It was started in 2015. Tameka Lee of the Caribbean Climate Innovation Centre (CCIC), who is also the Programme Director of the Bootcamp, stated that Clean Tech Entrepreneurs face challenges in the green sector in terms of assistance and support in building out their businesses. There have been 13 bootcamps so far across the Caribbean.
