Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 19, 2018 (SKNIS): Minister of Foreign Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Mark Brantley, during his contribution to The Appropriation (2019) Bill, 2018, on December 18, said that there should not be a divide between citizens who live on island and those abroad. Therefore, he said, various measures will be put in place to address this.

“It is high time that this artificial divide between those who are here and those who have left, let us remove that, and treat all of our people as citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis and therefore persons who have a contribution to make,” he said. “Because if we have 50 or 55,000 people here, I can tell you we have far more out there in terms of people who were born here and descendants of those.”

Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 19, 2018 (SKNIS): Approximately 50 nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis are currently employed in the construction of the second cruise pier at Port Zante with the potential for another 50 persons to gain employment as the work progresses.

This was reported by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris during his 2019 Budget Address on December 12, 2018. The prime minister said that the engagement of locals is in keeping with the government’s efforts to ensure that local technicians are involved in the developmental process.

 Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 19, 2018 (SKNIS): Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, the Honourable Vincent Byron Jr., said that the Freedom of Information Bill that was passed into law on May 03, 2018, will be operationalized after the necessary requirements are put in place.

“Part of the process to operationalize this Bill has to be to document management processes to ensure that when the public comes to request the data it is available in a timely fashion,” he said, while speaking in support of The Appropriation (2019) Bill, 2018, on December 18.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 19, 2018 (SKNIS): After a period spanning five days, from the presentation of the Budget Address 2019 by Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, to the rebuttal by Leader of Opposition, The Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, and debates by parliamentarians, The Appropriation (2019) Bill, 2018, with total estimates for 2019 of EC$ 772, 881,833 for recurrent expenditure, capital expenditure and net lending, was passed into law on Tuesday, December 18, 2018.
