Decline of exports to the US creates more hardship for manufacturing workers says Douglas

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 24th 2017 – With the export of goods and services to the United States on the decline, St. Kitts and Nevis has recorded its worst drop for the months of July and August this year.

The decline in July was the worst in six years while in August it was the lowest in 11 years.

Former Prime Minister and current Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Tuesday, when his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party took office in 1995, the value of exports of goods and services was recorded at US$23.3 million (EC$62.9 million).

PM Harris cancels trip to attend Cannes International Emigration & Luxury Property Expo in France

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 25th 2017 – Questions have been raised about the last minute cancellation of travel arrangements by St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris to Cannes, France via London on Monday.

 Dr. Harris was scheduled to leave Antigua for France on a British Airways flight via London to attend the Cannes      International Emigration & Luxury Property Expo from 26 – 27 October at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes.

Ease of Doing Business in St. Kitts and Nevis declines; Federation ranks 134 of 190 nations

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 24th 2017 – The nearly 3-year-old Timothy Harris Team Unity administration has failed in its manifesto promise to improve the ways of doing business in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The World Bank in its Ease of Doing Business report on St. Kitts and Nevis, ranks the twin-island Federation 134 out of 190 countries in 2017 compared to 127 out of 190 countries in 2016.
“St. Kitts and Nevis has dropped several points in seven of the ten benchmarks. There was a slight improvement in one benchmark while the other two remained the same,” said Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas during his weekly radio programme “Ask the Ledaer” on Kyss 102.5 FM on Tuesday.
