PM Harris skips CPA meeting in St. Kitts, fifth for 2017

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, June 19th 2017 – Absent again. The Federation’s Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris was notably absent from another important regional meeting, the fifth in the past six months.

St. Kitts and Nevis is hosting the 42nd Regional Conference of the Caribbean, the Americas and the Atlantic Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) with nearly 100 delegates and observers from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the United Kingdom and Canada.

But Prime Minister Harris was absent from this meeting and his remarks were presented instead by Acting Prime Minster, the Hon. Shawn K. Richards.

No reason was given for the absence of Dr. Harris at the CPA conference, the first to be held here since 2000.

Minister Ian Liburd storms out of CPA Meeting

 BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 19th 2017 – Unable to have his way, St. Kitts and Nevis Government minister, Hon. Ian Patches Liburd stormed out of the 42nd Regional Conference of the Caribbean, the Americas and the Atlantic Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) when he was not allowed to have his way.

Protocol calls for the two front seats at the table be occupied by one member from Government and one from the Opposition.

Hon. Eugene Hamilton, the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly and Mr. Liburd, the Minister of Infrastructure, occupied the seats.

Opposition MP, Hon.  Konris Maynard went over and calmly told them that one seat was for the opposition.

It falls to me today as Acting Prime Minister to relay to the Public that a tragic shooting incident occurred this morning at our main medical facility the Joseph N France Hospital. While the details are yet emerging and our security forces are fully engaged in investigating this matter, this criminal activity at our main medical facility is of tremendous concern to this Unity Government.

Liddie attempted suicide in Basseterre police cell, warded at JNF

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 20TH 2017 – Eighteen-year-old Travien Liddie arrested for the murder of 17-year-old Leanna Napoleon, tried to commit suicide on Monday, hours after he was formally charged.
Liddie was in the police cell at the Basseterre Police Station when the attempt to take his own life was made.
