TITLE BY REGISTRATION AMENDMENT BILL, 2017 PASSED TO FACILITATE THE EASE OF DOING BUSINESS IN ST. KITTS AND NEVIS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 12, 2017 (SKNIS):  A Bill shortly entitled Title by Registration Amendment Bill, 2017 was read a third time and passed into law during Tuesday’s (July 11) Sitting of Parliament, and is a “consequential amendment” made to the Title by Registration Act Cap. 10.19, the principle Act in light of the Land Registry Act, which was also passed on the above mentioned date.

“This new system would be more efficient and this would benefit the federation in a number of ways …by promoting the ease of doing business,” said the Honourable Vincent Byron Jr., Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, who first introduced and read the Bill at the June 13 Sitting of National Assembly. In yesterday’s (July 11) Sitting, he noted that the Bill would provide mainly for a number of matters.

OPPOSITION MP KONRIS MAYNARD NAMED AND SUSPENDED FROM PARLIAMENT FOR GROSS DISRESPECT TO SPEAKER

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 12, 2017 (SKNIS): The Sitting of the National Assembly on July 11 had gone on relatively smoothly but Member of Parliament (MP) for St. Christopher Three, the Honourable Konris Maynard, spoiled the day when he was called out, named and suspended from the hallowed chamber for gross disrespect and defiance to Speaker Honourable Michael Perkins. This is the second time that MP Maynard has been asked to take leave of the Parliament for gross disrespect to the Chair, the first being on May 23 of this year.

Delivering the feature address at a “Women’s Political Leadership and Participation in the Commonwealth Caribbean” – Commonwealth Expert Validation Workshop in Barbados, Dr. Douglas praised CARICOM’s efforts to recognize outstanding female leadership in the Caribbean.

Dr. Joseph Christmas called for the protection of St. Kitts’ water table

BASSETERRE, ST.KITTS, JULY 10TH 2017 – St. Kitts-born Dr. Joseph Christmas, who called for the protection of  St. Kitts’ largest water table rose from Head of the Water Department in St. Kitts and Nevis to become Global Chief of Water at the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) based in New York.

In 1973, Dr. Christmas, who hailed from Saddlers Village, wrote the thesis entitled: “Hydrogeology of an unconfined Coastal Aquifer System Basseterre Valley, St. Kitts.”

The thesis was submitted by Dr. Christmas for his Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of the West Indies Geology Department, University of the West Indies. 1977.
