Low attendance at Saturday’s Independence Parade increases debate of PM Harris’ growing unpopularity

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 9TH 2017 – Kittitians stayed away from Saturday’s Independence Parade in Basseterre, increasing the political debate of the growing unpopularity of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris and his three-party Team Unity administration.

Although the day was declared a public holiday by Governor General Sir Tapley Seaton on the advice of Prime Minister Harris nearly 300 persons attended the military parade at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium. Several photos showing the low attendance and the empty seats have been posted on social media by professional and amateur photographers.

September 19th is Independence Day, but the parade had to be cancelled as Hurricane Maria passed well south of St. Kitts and Nevis on that day causing minimal damage.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 7TH 2017 – One man is dead and another injured in an early morning shooting at a nightclub in Old Road.

Dead is West Farm resident, David Wilkinson, alias Putty said to be in his mid-40’s.
