RISK ASSESSMENT ON PORK FROM BRAZIL TO BE CARRIED OUT
Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 10, 2017 (SKNIS): The Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) has recommended that a risk assessment be done on pork from specific farms in Santa Catarina, Brazil, Minister of Agriculture, the Honourable Eugene Hamilton,disclosed in Parliament on Thursday, August 10.

POLICE TO PROMOTE POSITIVE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AT SUMMER
Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 09, 2017 (SKNIS): Using social media in positive ways will be an emphasis of a new initiative to be rolled out next week by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF).
This is one of the topics at the inaugural Police Summer Youth Camp that will be held from August 14 to 27 at the Dr. William Connor Primary School. Officials are expecting 200 young people to attend the sessions that will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ARREST AND BAIL:
Arrested: EllisterThomas of Ottley’s Village was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offence of possession of a control substance suspected to be cannabis.
Arrested: Inon Alexis Nias of Greenlands was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Possession of two firearms and an assortment of rounds of ammunition, and Possession of Cocaine and two counts of Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Supply to another.

Carib Brewery reports St. Kitts and Nevis economy declined in 2016; export sales decreased by 37 percent
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, AUGUST 10H 2017 – Carib Brewery (St. Kitts and Nevis) in its annual report for 2016 said it is now estimated that growth in the St. Kitts and Nevis economy declined to 3.5 percent in 2016, from 3.8 percent in 2015.

Nevisian Elmos Wilkes, beaten, robbed and tied up on the road in Nevis
CHARESTOWN, NEVIS, AUGUST 9TH 2017 – Nevisian Elmos Wilkes, who returned to Nevis for a funeral and who decided to stay on for Culturama is in serious condition at the Alexandra Hospital in Charlestown after being beaten and robbed.
According to a family member, who resides in New York, Wilkes, who lives in St. Croix with his family and will not be named, is suspected to have been beaten and robbed between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
“He was found tied up on the road. He is in a mess in hospital. His face is swollen and he has lost his teeth,” said the family member Wednesday evening.
Police in Nevis have confirmed the incident.
