CFBC AND TAIWANICDF FORMALISE PARTNERSHIP TO STRENGTHEN ACTION ON PLASTIC WASTE AND MARINE LITTER

Basseterre, Saint Kitts, September 23, 2026 (SKNIS) – The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) and the Taiwan Technical Mission, operating under the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), have formalised their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening efforts to address plastic waste and marine litter in Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The MOU was signed today, September 23, 2026, at the CFBC Campus under the Prevention of Marine Litter in the Caribbean Sea (PROMAR) project, implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The agreement establishes a framework for expanded cooperation between CFBC and TaiwanICDF in areas including recycling and material recovery, circular economy initiatives, marine litter prevention, technical knowledge exchange, capacity building, research and data collection, public education, community engagement and behavioural change.

SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO STRONGER CELAC-EU PARTNERSHIP

New York, USA, September 23, 2026 (SKNIS): Saint Kitts and Nevis has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU), during the CELAC-EU Ministerial Meeting held on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York.

The Federation was represented by the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who welcomed the adoption of the 2025–2027 Roadmap and underscored the importance of stronger international cooperation in addressing shared global challenges.

ACTING PRIME MINISTER HANLEY DELIVERS CARICOM STATEMENT ON RIGHT TO DEVELOPMENT AT UNITED NATIONS

United Nations, New York, September 23, 2026 (SKNIS): Acting Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, delivered a statement on behalf of the fourteen Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Wednesday, September 23, during the High-level Segment of the United Nations General Assembly commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development.
 

In presenting CARICOM’s position, Acting Prime Minister Hanley underscored the particular development challenges confronting Caribbean states, including climate-related disasters, high debt burdens, limited fiscal space, restricted access to concessional financing and structural inequalities within the international economic system.

SENIOR MINISTER DOUGLAS CALLS FOR DEEPER CELAC-INDIA COOPERATION TO ADVANCE AGRICULTURAL DIVERSIFICATION 

New York, USA, September 22, 2026 (SKNIS): Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, reaffirmed Saint Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to strengthening relations between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and India during the CELAC–India Ministerial Meeting held on Tuesday, September 22, on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York.

In his intervention, Senior Minister Douglas pledged the Federation’s support for the continued development of the CELAC–India relationship and commended Uruguay for its leadership of CELAC at a time when greater cooperation among member states and international partners is increasingly important.
