GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP LAUNCHED TO ADVANCE EQUITY AND TRANSFORM SICKLE CELL CARE

New York, USA, September 23, 2026 (SKNIS): Saint  Kitts and Nevis took a prominent role in advancing global action on sickle cell disease on Wednesday, September 23, as the Federation co-hosted the official launch of OneSCD: A Global Partnership to Advance Equity and Transform Sickle Cell Care, bringing together international partners around a shared commitment to expand access to quality treatment and reduce disparities in care.

Acting Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, represented the Federation at the high-level event, joining representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Africa CDC, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, medical professionals, advocates and other global partners.

MULTI-AGENCY TEAM BEGIN EXPLOSIVES DISPOSAL EXERCISE AND TRAINING IN SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS

Basseterre, Saint Kitts, September 24, 2026 (SKNIS): Personnel from several agencies responsible formaintaining homeland security in Saint Kitts and Nevis are participating in a three-day explosives disposal exercise and training.

Expired munitions and ordnance are being safely detonated at the disposal exercise and training, which is being held at the Shooting Range at Bakers Point. Unauthorised individuals are asked to stay away from the exclusion zone during the September 23 to 25, 2026, training period being attended by members of the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) Infantry and Coast Guard Unit, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), and the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS). The exercise is supported by the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) and the Caribbean Community Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (CARICOM IMPACS).

“OUR TASK IS NOT TO WIND DOWN UNAIDS”: ACTING PRIME MINISTER HANLEY TELLS UNGA81 SIDE EVENT

New York, USA, September 24, 2026 (SKNIS): Acting Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, has issued a strong call for continued international support and adequate resourcing of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), stressing its critical role in the global effort to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

Dr. Hanley made the call while delivering opening remarks at the UNAIDS Transformation Side Event, held on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York.

HON. KONRIS MAYNARD ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE CARIBBEAN TELECOMMUNICATIONS UNION
 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 23 September 2026 — The Honourable Konris Maynard, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities, Domestic Transport, Information, Communication and Technology and Posts, has been elected President of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU).

Minister Maynard was elected during the 32nd General Conference of Ministers of the CTU, held in French Guiana, on 23 September 2026, as part of CTU ICT Week 2026.

His election marks another significant moment for St. Kitts and Nevis, as the smallest sovereign nation in the Western Hemisphere assumes the presidency of the Caribbean’s principal intergovernmental organisation dedicated to telecommunications and information and communications technology.
