GOVERNMENT TAKES ANOTHER STEP IN ADDRESSING WATER ISSUES WITH THE GROUNDBREAKING FOR A TWO-MILLION GALLON PER DAY DESALINATION PLANT

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 18, 2024 (SKNIS) – To effectively address the ongoing challenge of water scarcity, largely as a result of a decline in rainfall due to climate change, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has commenced construction of a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Site, Basseterre, capable of producing two (2) million gallons of water daily.

The Government broke ground on a 2 million gallon desalination plant today.

This desalination plant costs about $50 million. This had to be done otherwise the country would run out of water. The Government therefore had to prioritize.

Basseterre: St. Kitts, WednesdayJuly 17,2024:​ The Early Childhood Development Unit (ECDU) wishes to inform all parents and guardians of children attending PUBLIC Early Childhood Centres that the centres will be closed for two weeks starting August 19, 2024.

The Centres will reopen on Monday, September2, 2024.
