MINISTER CLARKE SOUNDS ALARM OVER PLASTIC WASTE ALONG MAJOR ROADWAYS
Basseterre, Saint Kitts, October 23, 2026 (SKNIS): As the Ministry of Sustainable Development closes out Sustainability Month in October, government officials are calling on all citizens and residents to help stamp out the unlawful disposal of garbage along roadsides, in parks and green spaces and along the nation’s beaches.
Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, the Honourable Dr. Joyelle Clarke, highlighted the troubling issue while presenting during the Statement by Ministers segment at Friday’s (October 23, 2026) Sitting of the National Assembly.
“Just yesterday someone remarked to me that they have never in their life seen so [many] plastic bottles and crates thrown along the road between the stretch near Ross University, between Cayon and Keys, and as you drive along Tabernacle, and between Dieppe Bay and St. Paul’s,” Dr. Clarke stated.
CITIZENSHIP AMENDMENT BILL OPENS NEW PATHWAYS FOR DIASPORA TO RECONNECT WITH SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS

During his contribution to the debate on the second reading of the Bill in the National Assembly on October 23, Acting Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley highlighted the longstanding challenges faced by descendants of Kittitians and Nevisians who, despite maintaining strong cultural and family connections to the Federation, have been unable to obtain citizenship under existing constitutional provisions.
Government Must Meet Public Scrutiny With Evidence and Candour, Says Acting Prime Minister Hanley

Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, has affirmed that government must respond to public scrutiny with evidence, openness and a clear account of its work, describing the examination of government’s decisions as an essential part of democratic life.
Delivering the keynote address at the Budget 2027 National Forum on October 20, Dr. Hanley said accountability must remain central as the Government prepares its next budget and advances its national development programme.
PREPARING YOUNG PEOPLE FOR TOMORROW’S WORKFORCE MUST BE A NATIONAL PRIORITY, SAYS ACTING PRIME MINISTER DR. HANLEY
Basseterre, Saint Kitts, October 21, 2026 (SKNIS): Ensuring that young people are equipped to seize emerging employment opportunities is central to building a stronger future for Saint Kitts and Nevis, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Education, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, has emphasised.
Addressing the Budget 2027 National Forum at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort on October 20, Dr. Hanley called for closer alignment between education, technical training and the changing needs of the economy, highlighting the importance of preparing the next generation for meaningful participation in the workforce.
He identified construction, renewable energy, healthcare, agriculture, tourism and digital services as sectors offering opportunities for employment and professional development, stressing that preparation for these fields must begin before young people leave school.
“We must strengthen the connection between education, technical training and the opportunities emerging in our economy,” Dr. Hanley stated.
Acting Prime Minister Dr. Hanley also underscored the need for practical retraining pathways for adults and stronger collaboration with employers to identify skills gaps and provide opportunities for workplace experience.
Emphasising the broader significance of youth development, Dr. Hanley noted that economic progress must create realistic pathways for citizens to build secure and rewarding lives at home.
“For me, one important measure of progress is whether a young person can look ahead and see a future worth working towards in Saint Kitts and Nevis,” he said.
Dr. Hanley’s address highlighted the importance of investing in human capital to strengthen national productivity, expand employment prospects and ensure that the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis are prepared to contribute to the country’s continued development.
Government’s Inaugural Retail Bond Fully Subscribed Following Strong Investor Response
Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, October 21, 2026 (PMO) – The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis’ inaugural Household and Non-Governmental Organisation Retail Bond has been fully subscribed at EC$10 million, following strong demand from investors in the Federation and across the Eastern Caribbean.
Financial Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Carlton Pogson, announced the successful subscription during the 2027 National Budget Forum on Tuesday, October 20, noting that demand for the investment instrument significantly exceeded the Government’s original EC$5 million offering.
