PRIME MINISTER HARRIS REAFFIRMS THE TEAM UNITY GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT TO THE FARMING COMMUNITY

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, April 25, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris used Thursday (April 25) morning’s ceremony to mark the opening of the Department of Agriculture’s Open Day 2019 to reaffirm his Government’s fullest commitment to the farming community in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Addressing the ceremony at the department’s conference room at LaGuerite, Prime Minister Harris told the nation’s farmers and fisher folk that the Team Unity administration stands with them and noted that “we are prepared to give all that we reasonably can for the forward thrust and development of the agricultural sector.”

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 25, 2019 (SKNIS): Agriculture in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis is far reaching as it sparks the potential for trade and the enhancement of the country’s tourism product, says Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Lindsay Grant, speaking at the Department of Agriculture’s 26th Open Day on April 25, held under the theme “Food Security for our Country”.

“The Global Culinary Tourism or gastronomy as it is called, is a multimillion dollar industry that is contributing both to the socioeconomic development of a number of destinations,” said the minister, adding that more and more persons are travelling to eat exotic dishes and to participate in and experience events that are centred around food that is grown and produced locally.”

New WHO guidelines on physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep for children under 5 years of age

24 April 2019 | GENEVA: Children under five must spend less time sitting watching screens, or restrained in prams and seats, get better quality sleep and have more time for active play if they are to grow up healthy, according to new guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Achieving health for all means doing what is best for health right from the beginning of people’s lives,” says WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “Early childhood is a period of rapid development and a time when family lifestyle patterns can be adapted to boost health gains.”

THE PEOPLE’S ACTION MOVEMENT ELECTS A NEW PARTY EXECUTIVE

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, April 25, 2019 – The People’s Action Movement (PAM) held its 54th Annual Delegates Convention (Caucus) last evening, Wednesday 24th April, 2019 at the PAM headquarters.  At this Caucus, delegates from all eight constituencies discussed the Party business and subsequently voted to elect the 2019/2020 Executive body that will govern the affairs of the Party for one year.  Members of the Young Pamites were also in attendance and cast their votes.
