ST. KITTS AND NEVIS’ 35TH INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATED IN CANADIAN CITIES
Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 20, 2018 (MOFA): On September 19, St. Kitts and Nevis’ 35th Independence anniversary was celebrated in cities across Canada. The flag of the Federation was raised at City Halls in Ottawa, Toronto and Halifax.

The capital city of Ottawa in Ontario and the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia also issued official proclamations in honour of St. Kitts and Nevis’ 35th anniversary of Independence and the longstanding relationship between the Federation and Canada.

Senator Byron-Nisbett pays tribute to First Living National Hero Simmonds

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, September 20, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, has paid glowing tribute to Federation’s First Living National Hero, the Right Excellent and Right Honourable Dr Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds, KCMG, JP, NH, saying he is the embodiment of ‘Country above Self’.

On the occasion of the unveiling of statues of the five National Heroes at the National Heroes’ Park on Monday September 17, Senator Byron-Nisbett was given the honourable task of presenting a bouquet to the man who was the Federation’s first Prime Minister when the country gained its independence on September 19, 1983.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 19, 2018 (SKNIS): Shortly after the Independence Ceremonial Parade at Warner Park, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, accompanied by the Honourable Wendy Phipps, Minister of State within the Ministry of Health, visited the Joseph N. France General Hospital to join Lime Kiln couple Alisha Perez and Jorge Perez in welcoming their bouncing baby girl, Anais Perez, who was born on the nation’s 35th Independence Day, September 19, 2018.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 19, 2018 (SKNIS): While delivering his address to the nation in commemoration of 35 years of Independence, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris said that residents and citizens have a lot to be proud of with the many accomplishments the nation has had over the past 35 years.

“As we stand at 35, we are forced to conclude, as eminent attorney Anthony Gonsalves QC has, that we have achieved quite a lot of accomplishments that far outweigh our petite size and limited resources,” said Prime Minister Harris, while noting that the prudent fiscal management of the country has been above average leading to economic growth with surpluses that have been shown year after year.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 19, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Following what is being described as the largest Independence Day Parade at the  Warner Park Cricket Stadium and the subsequent Toasts to the Nation today (September 19), St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, held important bilateral discussions with three visiting foreign diplomats, namely, from Japan, the United States of America and Switzerland, all with the aim of strengthening cooperation with these nations.
