Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris’ Remarks

for Commemorative Booklet to mark

the 2018 Appreciation Day for Sanitation Workers

Sunday, September 9th, 2018

It is my great honour and privilege to once again commend the efforts of Pastor Lincoln Hazell and his devoted congregation at the Apostolic Faith Church for organizing the Annual Sanitation Workers Appreciation Day, which is now in its 16th year.

Every year without fail since 2002, you keep honouring our hard-working women and men, who handle, collect and dispose of our garbage; clean our streets, parks and beaches, and protect our environment.

On behalf of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis, I heartily congratulate all our sanitation workers for seamlessly performing an essential service to the public by keeping our communities and country clean, safe and habitable.

SKNNCC Containers and Revenues Release

After investing in several Containers in 2016, the St. Kitts Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) continues to reap benefits from procuring said Assets.    The 20-foot and 40-foot Containers were first used for Sugar Mas 45 and again, for Sugar Mas 46, at the Circus.    Vendors were able to operate their Carnival Bars/Booths from said Containers.  This Model provided multiple benefits.  First, is that of safety and security.  Each Vendor provided his/her door locks, thus they were able to better protect their inventory and equipment.   Secondly, the standardized appearance of the Booths and the surroundings added more pleasing aesthetics to the Carnival Village.  Further, Vendors were able to save money as they no longer had to rent transportation to deliver their inventory and equipment to and from the Vending Spots twice per day.  Additional savings were accrued also from them not having to rent Tents to provide shelter for their operations. Yet another benefit was the relief Vendors gleaned from not having to pack up and break down their operation daily.
