CANADA ANNOUNCES NEW OPTIONS FOR VISA APPLICATIONS

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis of changes to the visa application process that have been announced by the government of Canada.

In a statement released on Friday, the government of Canada informed that it “is expanding its biometrics collection program and is now taking steps to prepare for 31 December, 2018, when nationals from countries in Asia, Asia Pacific and the Americas will need to give their biometrics (fingerprints and a photo) when applying for a visitor visa, study, or work permit, or for permanent residence.”

By 1914, there was a small number of persons from Lebanon living in St. Kitts. The Colonial administration referred to them as Syrians. They had come to the Caribbean to escape the turmoil in the Middle East and with the hope of starting a better life. They were in fact citizens of the Ottoman Empire also sometimes referred to as Turkish Empire. When war broke out in 1914, the Ottoman Empire became an ally of Germany. This made the Colonial authorities in the Caribbean uneasy about the presence of the Lebanese community in the Caribbean.

(5 November, 2018). The St. Kitts and Nevis delegation to Japan led by Hon. Mark Brantley, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Aviation today had the opportunity to visit the Kyoto University Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) and observed simulation exercises related to disaster risk reduction and management.
