MR. STANLEY V. FRANKS, LONGEST-SERVING COMMISSIONER OF POLICE,

TO BE LAID TO REST THURSDAY WITH FULL MILITARY HONOURS

 

Mr. Stanley V. Franks, the longest-serving Commissioner of Police (1980 – 1993), will be laid to rest with full military honours on Thursday, August 9th, 2018.  He died last Friday evening (July 27th) at the age of 79.

The funeral service will take place at the Wesley Methodist Church located on Seaton Street just off of Victoria Road in Basseterre, St. Kitts from 2:00pm, with viewing and tributes being held between 1:00pm and 2:00pm.

The Defence Force Band and Drum Corps will provide musical accompaniment for the funeral procession.  There will be a Bearing Party to shoulder and carry his coffin, a Firing Party to fire volleys of blank cartridges at the Springfield Cemetery, a Colour Party to carry the flag of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, and a Mourning Party comprising of members of the Police Force, the Defence Force and other disciplined organizations.

STATEMENT ON EXTRADITION OF ST. KITTS AND NEVIS NATIONAL TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Keith Oniel Braid alias Christopher Antonio Nile, subject of extradition proceedings in the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, was charged with two (2) counts of attempted second-degree murder in the State of Florida. His criminal prosecution began on September 01, 2016 in the Orange County Court in the State of Florida, and on September 01, 2017 the Defendant entered into a plea agreement whereby he pleaded no contest to the charges.

 It is procedural for the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force to implement an operation plan for all major events in the Federation, Culturama included.

Executing the operation plan for Culturama 44 meant increasing patrols, vehicle check points, stop and search exercises and suspending certain duties to allow for more officers to be on the ground during the festivities, among other things.  To further ensure that we keep our communities safe effectively, combining new technology – such as the use of closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) – with known traditional community watch programmes, are absolutely necessary.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 3, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Former Minister of Tourism, His Excellency Ambassador Michael Powell, on Friday, August 3, expressed his immense pleasure in being able to personally witness firsthand the construction of a second cruise pier in Basseterre, St. Kitts.

Ambassador Powell was among the invited guests during a media tour of the second cruise pier construction site. Also present during that tour was Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris; Minister of Public Infrastructure, the Honourable Ian Patches Liburd; representatives of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority, as well as officials representing the various contractors and subcontracting firms.

GOVERNMENT’S POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROGRAMME TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THOUSANDS, SAYS PRIME MINISTER HARRIS
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 3, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Residents across the length and breadth of St. Kitts are beginning to fill the halls of the various application centers for their chance to complete the registration process as part of the Team Unity Government’s historic Poverty Alleviation Programme.

Through this programme, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis will provide financial support in the amount of EC$500 per month to those households whose total gross monthly income falls below EC$3,000.

The Poverty Alleviation Programme is being implemented in three phases, with the first phase being the data collection drive. Phase two will consist of an investigative and assessment stage during which the data collected will be verified to determine whether individuals who have applied for the assistance are genuinely eligible and phase three will see the commencement of payments to qualifying households.
