CIU LAUNCHES ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING TRAINING COURSES FOR ENTIRE STAFF

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 13, 2017 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The entire staff of the Citizenship-by-Investment Unit (CIU) is currently undergoing training in the prevention of financial crime, as well as anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML-CFT) preventive measures.

 The Thomson Reuters Online Training Introduction courses, which commenced on Wednesday, May 10th, 2017, were initiated by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CIU, Mr. Les Khan.

Chamber Of Industry And Commerce Executive Commends Nevis Premier For Continued Partnership

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (May 12, 2017) — Ernie France, Chairperson of the Nevis Division of the St. Kitts Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, commended Premier of Nevis Hon. Vance Amory for the opportunity he continues to provide to dialogue on matters of importance and relevance to the private sector on Nevis.

Mr. France and other members of the Chamber’s Nevis Division executive, met with Mr. Amory at the Premier’s Ministry for their first meeting for the year at Pinney’s Estate on May 10, 2017.

He said the interaction between the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) and the private sector is an invaluable one and the partnership is the way they could grow and move the country forward.

Among the topics discussed were development projects, the crime situation and an update on the geothermal project.

Another Illegal Firearm Seized By Security Forces Nineteenth For The Year

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 130, 2017 (RSCNPF): An late night execution of a Search Warrant on a property in Cayon has resulted in the seizure of an illegal firearm and matching ammunition.

The search conducted around 10.45pm on Friday (May 12) by officers of the Special Service Unit(SSU) resulted in the discovery and seizure of one (1) Ruger P345 .45 pistol with a magazine containing five (5) rounds of .45 ammunition.

Six (6) persons at the location were taken into Police custody.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 12, 2017 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – As the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to implement measures and programs geared towards the reduction of crime and violence, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris says society, including the family unit, must play a greater role in ensuring there is no hiding place for criminals.

Prime Minister Harris, speaking on Wednesday (May 10th) during his monthly press conference, said society must “rise to a higher level of engagement and support, in order to rid this country of the scourge of violent crime – gun violence in particular and criminality in general.”

Owners Of Illegally Tinted Vehicles Face $5,000 Fine

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 12, 2017 (SKNIS): Traffic authorities are expected to be more vigilant in enforcing national laws regarding the tinting of vehicles in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The legally accepted percentage of tint on vehicles is 35 percent. However, various vehicles can be seen on the road with a darker tint. Only security or emergency vehicles or those otherwise authorized by the relevant authority are allowed to have a higher tint percentage.
