DEPARTMENT OF GENDER AFFAIRS REACHES OUT TO GRIEVING MOTHERS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 16, 2017 (SKNIS)—A support group for Grieving Mothers established by the Department of Gender Affairs in 2016 reached out to grieving mothers in a show of empathy for this year’s Mother’s Day, which was celebrated on May 14.

The grieving mothers were honoured by the director, Mrs. Celia Christopher, and staff of the Department of Gender Affairs, who chose to celebrate mother’s day by honouring them for their contribution to their families.

The grieving mothers were treated to a day at the spa with manicure/pedicure and a luncheon in their honour. The activities then moved to her Majesty’s Prison, where care packages were delivered to female residents as part of the department’s day celebration.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 16th 2017 – Basseterre, the St. Kitts capital, Tuesday witnessed its third protest action in the past nine days.
Disgruntled taxi drivers demanding their “fair share” from the Team Unity Government of Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris honked their horns and displayed placards demanding better treatment and accused the government of favouring the big tour operators.
Sylvester “King Socrates” Hodge claims that the new dispatching system implemented last February by Minister of Tourism, Hon. Lindsay Grant, is flawed and meetings with him have been fruitless.

Poultry farmer suffers EC$10,000 loss as 600 birds die

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 16th 2017 – A poultry farmer in St. Kitts has lost 600 laying birds over a three day period as the Department of Agriculture is unable to provide adequate supply of feed.

The farmer has suffered losses close to EC$10,000. He has been able to get a small quantity from the Department of Agriculture in Nevis.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 16th 2017 – Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, warned Tuesday any further negative on the country’s Citizenship by Investment Programme, will affect the nation’s economy, people, image and credibility.

China said St. Kitts and Nevis is becoming a haven for criminals and has accused the Team Unity Government of Prime Minister Harris of refusing to handover Ren Biao a Chinese for allegedly stealing US$100 million from a Chinese state company. Chinese diplomatic sources have also disclosed that in an intercepted communication on April 16, Ren called relatives in Beijing seeking an additional US$190,000 to pay for his protection by Kittitian authorities.
