REGIONAL PROJECT LAUNCHED TO PROTECT FISHING SECTORS ACROSS THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 30, 2017 (SKNIS):  The Climate Change Adaptation in the Eastern Caribbean Fisheries Sector (CC4FISH) project was launched in St. Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, May 30, during a national workshop, with the aim of increasing resilience and reducing vulnerability to climate change impacts in the Eastern Caribbean fisheries sector through introduction of adaptation measures in fisheries management and capacity building of fisherfolk and aquaculturists.

The CC4FISH Project was implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) with a US$5.4 million grant under its Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF). It is expected to be rolled out in seven Caribbean countries, including Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Dr. Iris Monnereau, Regional Project Coordinator – FAO, said that it is important to implement a project of this nature, noting that as “climate change is becoming increasingly real” it is also important to look at countries and regions that will suffer disastrous impacts.

Government mum on plans by LIAT to stop flying to St. Thomas.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – May 30th 2017 – Three months after the announcement that LIAT – the Caribbean Airline – will stop flying between St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States Virgin Islands, there has been no statement from the Team Unity Government.

Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, Tourism Minister Hon. Lindsay Grant and Minister of Aviation, Hon, Mark Brantley have been completely silent on the measures they intend to take to provide easier access for nationals and visitors between both destinations.

US judge modifies asset freeze order for two illicit actors granted St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship by PM Harris.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 24th 2017 – A Nevada judge has modified the asset freeze order imposed on two illicit actors granted St. Kitts and Nevis Economic Citizenship in 2015 by Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) complaint unsealed on May 19th 2016 stated that fraud charges against attorney and Nevada resident David Kaplan were filed based on an allegedly fraudulent scheme that raised US$15.8 million.

Foreign Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) gathered in Bridgetown, Barbados, at the Twentieth Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) deliberated on the changes taking place in the international environment as well as in their wider regional environment and on their implications for the coordinated foreign policy positioning of their countries.

They reiterated the importance they accord to maintenance of the rule of law, respect for human rights and democracy, as well as to the fundamental principles of non-intervention and non-interference in the internal affairs of states. These values and principles were viewed as being of paramount importance when addressing international situations of concern.

MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN GILLARD MEADOWS INCIDENT.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 18, (RSCNPF): A suspect taken into custody on suspicion of the murder of Gregory Mills has been arrested, formally charged and cautioned.

Arrested and charged is Omax Bye, a 31year old male resident of Upper Shaw Avenue, McKnight.

He was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offence of murder which was committed on Tuesday (May 09).
