COVID-19 UPDATE: 82 cases were recorded on Monday, 43 discharged, two deaths

There were 82 new positive cases of COVID-19 recorded on Monday, February, 8.

These cases include positive results from January 29 to 31. Situations like this may occur occasionally as the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory continues to try to clear the backlog created due to the use of manual extraction in the processing of samples. The Ministry of Health and Wellness is taking measures to have this issue rectified in the short term with the automated extractor reagent expected to arrive within a week.

Update: The case against Mr Leon Natta was withdrawn from the court.

The case against Mr Leon Natta was withdrawn from the court.

DPP drops case against Leon Natta-Nelson in the middle of the prosecution’s case. The case was withdrawn after Natta-Nelson’s lawyers reveal in cross-examination, that high ranking political persons or their family members also failed to renew their firearms by the 31 Jan 2018 but were not charged.

Natta-Nelson’s lawyers pointed out that even if the DPP did not withdraw the case, it would have failed as the charge was statute bar having been laid outside six months limitation period.

Mr Leon Natta case was withdrawn from the court against the Team Unity. Mr Natta was formally arrested and charged for failing to renew his ” Firearm Users License in October 2018.

He was also suspended from work with half pay of his salary pending the investigation.
