PM HARRIS DECLARES HISTORY AND HERITAGE MONTH 2019 OPEN
Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 01, 2019 (SKNIS): The official opening of History and Heritage Month, which is celebrated annually in the month of February, took place on January 31 at the Matheson House at Taylors Range. The month long of activities, which was started by the late Sir Probyn Inniss, is being celebrated under the theme, “African Survivals in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

The History and Heritage Month features outreach activities held by various organizations including the Brimstone Hill National Park Society, Department of Culture and Ministry of Education, the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society, the St. Christopher National Trust and other partner agencies. The activities are designed to promote among citizens greater knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the history, heritage and culture of the country, and to foster stronger national identities and pride.

CARICOM URGES PEACEFUL RESOLUTION TO “UNSATISFACTORY SITUATION” IN VENEZUELA

 

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 25, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) convened an emergency meeting via video-conference on Thursday (January 24) evening at which time they called for a peaceful resolution to the evolving volatile political situation in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, saw participation from twelve CARICOM Member States.

While the Heads of Government reaffirmed their guiding principles of non-interference and non-intervention in the affairs of states, respect for sovereignty, adherence to the rule of law, and respect for human rights and democracy, the leaders reiterated “the long-standing political crisis, which has been exacerbated by recent events, can only be resolved peacefully through meaningful dialogue and diplomacy.”

TEAM UNITY GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL CONTRACTORS
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 24, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – With a number of capital projects coming on stream in 2019, as well as the continuation of several major projects throughout the year, the Team Unity-led Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is making every effort to ensure small contractors across the length and breadth of the country reap the benefits from these significant infrastructural investments.

Speaking at Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Sandy Point Police Station, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris stated, “We believe that every citizen deserves a fair chance. We believe that every opportunity in the country should be opened up to anyone from St. Kitts or Nevis to at least get the opportunity to bid on a particular project.”

Skeete and Associates was the successful local company contracted for the construction of the new Sandy Point Police Station following an open and transparent bidding process.

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 10, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The case brought against the Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Denzil Douglas, continued in the High Court today (Thursday, January 10, 2019) with three expert witnesses on Dominican law making presentations before His Lordship Justice Trevor Ward QC to help him determine whether Dr. Douglas, through his use of a diplomatic passport issued by the Commonwealth of Dominica, is under allegiance to a foreign power.
