CARPHA Observes World No Tobacco Day

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. 29 May 2023.  Tobacco use remains a major public health concern in the Caribbean Region. There is no safe level of exposure to tobacco smoke. The use of tobacco products in any form harms nearly every organ of the body, irrespective of whether it is smoked, smokeless, or electronic.  Of all the forms of tobacco use, most common in the Caribbean region is cigarette smoking.   Cigarette smoking is the number one risk factor for lung cancer. Using other tobacco products such as cigars or pipes also increases the risk for this disease.

BATH, CONAREE EARN CRUCIAL WINS

 Sunday’s SKNFA Premier League action saw SOL IAS Conaree FC and Bath United earning
crucial wins at Warner Park. Conaree edged Hobson Enterprises Garden Hotspurs 2-1. Errol
O’Loughlin scored both of Conaree’s goals from the penalty spot in the 38 th and 71 st minutes,
while the lone goal from Spurs came from Steve Archibald in the 42 nd min. Coach of Conaree Al
Richards said it was an important win for them. “It was a dog fight. I told my team that it was a
derby…this win was needed tonight in order to get up back in the table in the top six. The guys
came out and performed, fight to the end and I must say congrats to my team,” Richards said.

SOUTHSTARS LEAPFROG MANTAB TO TOP DIVISION ONE TABLE
 Trafalgar Southstars have shot up the top of the 2023 SKNFA Division 1 table after they
drubbed 607 Construction Lodge Patriots 5-0 on Thursday in Cayon. Southstars have only lost
one game so far this season and have leapfrogged Mantab FC, the only team in St. Kitts Nevis
football yet to lose a match. They lead Mantab by a point—30 to 29 points.
