Douglas to PAM ministers in the Timothy HarrisCabinet: “Stand up as men and not as little boys”

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 1, 2018 – Former Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is of the view that the Peoples Action Movement (PAM) with a majority of the seats in the government headed by Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris “is too weak” to remove Harris as head of the three-party coalition administration.

Prime Minister Harris’ Peoples Labour Party (PLP) has one seat in coalition with the People’s Action Movement (PAM) which has four seats and the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), two.

“I believe that PAM is too weak at this time to do anything about that. It is really amazing how the PAM party that is 50 years old, can sit in a Cabinet and allow one man (Harris). PAM has four representatives and one man (Timothy Harris), who is considered as an outsider, can be allowed to rape the country, humiliate the other members of PAM who are government ministers, treat them it would appear like dogs at times and they just simply sit and do nothing,” said Dr. Douglas, in response to a question from a journalist during his Labour Party’s monthly press conference on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Harris is reported to have said on several occasions that ‘one is more than four’.

“They need to stand up as men. Stand as men and not as little boys. Stand up for what is right. People elected them to do what is right. And it is downright humiliating to see how members of a Cabinet can allow one man. You know why I had to fire him? It is because I could not tolerate Harris and his nonsense anymore. That is why I fired him. They need to fire him as well. They have the power to,” said Dr. Douglas, Leader of the Opposition.

Dr. Douglas in response to another question said everyone knows that Prime Minister Harris from the outset has been practising deception.

“That is why the people who supported him feel so badly. People like Douglas Wattley, the Terry Adams,’ the Clecton Phillips’ the Sam Condors. People who created that unity with him, They are the ones who today are saying they were deceived. That is what Harris is and that is how his own colleagues saw him then and now,” said Dr. Douglas.

In the February 16, 2015 General Elections, Harris PLP received 2,723 votes to the Hon. Shawn Richards’ Peoples Action Movement (PAM), 8,452 votes; Hon. Mark Brantley’s Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) 3,951 votes; Hon. Joseph Parry’s (Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), 3,276 votes and the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party of the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas’ 11,897 votes.

In the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, the PAM holds 4 seats; the SKNLP, 3 seats; the CCM, two seats and the NRP and the PLP, 1 seat each.
