FORMER ACP READY FOR NEW POST AS HEAD OF IMMIGRATION

 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 03, 2018 (RSCNPF): Former Assistant Commissioner of Police, Merclyn Hughes, is excited about her new post and has committed to carrying out her duties with integrity and vigor.

She officially became the new Chief of Immigration on July 02, 2018 and will head the Department of Immigration as the Government moves to separate the entity from the Police Force. Ms. Hughes has indicated that she is ready to meet the challenge head on. 

“I give God thanks for this opportunity to serve my people in another capacity as Chief Immigration Officer. It is still a form of law enforcement, which is my first love, after God…I expect to serve in my new capacity for as long as I am required to be there. It is a challenge, it will be a challenge, but I do not believe it is more than me and I’m going to give it my very, very best and I know I have the support of the men and women of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF). I will be working very closely with them as I continue to give God thanks,” said Ms. Hughes. 

Having enlisted as a Police Officer in December 1979, Ms. Hughes boasts an impressive stint with the force of 38 years. She was an Inspector of Police for six years before being promoted to Superintendent of Police in March 2012.  In January 2013, she was named Head of the Strategic Intelligence Unit (SIU). In 2016, she was promoted to the post of Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for the newly established Administration, Resources, Technology and Intelligence (ART-I) Directorate and had the task of overseeing the implementation of the first phase of the close-circuit television (CCTV) project, among other things. The move was historic, as she became the first female Officer to be appointed as a member of the High Command of the Force. Over the years, Ms. Hughes has had a special focus on Strategic Intelligence Leadership.

Her newest role was announced last week. Commissioner Queeley and the other members of the Police High Command expressed their sadness at her departure, but congratulated her on her promotion and noted their confidence in her ability to lead the new entity. There has also been an outpouring of congratulatory messages and words of encouragement from her colleagues in the RSCNPF, many revealing that she has been a role model and inspiration to them.

REPORT OF ARRESTS, CONVICTIONS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 03, 2018 (RSCNPF): Below is a report of arrests, convictions and other activities recorded by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for the period June 30-July 02, 2018.

ARRESTS AND BAIL:

Arrested: Vandel A.J. Blackmore of Hermitage, Cayon was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offence of Shooting at With Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm. 

Arrested: Curtney Prentice of Newton Ground was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Malicious Damage and Larceny.

Arrested/Bailed:  Kishmo Carey of St. Pauls was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Obstruction under the Drug Act, Driving Without a Seatbelt and Driving Without a Front Registration Number. He was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 for his appearance at the Dieppe Bay Magistrate Court on July 09, 2018. 

Arrested/Bailed: Leon Isaac of Conaree was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Driving Without a Vaild Driver’s Licence and Driving Without Insurance. He was granted bail in the sum of $7,000 for his appearance at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on August 16, 2018. 

Arrested/Bailed: Malvern Walwyn of Hard Times, Gingerland was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Using Threatening Language, Resisting Arrest and Battery on Police. He was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 for his appearance at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on August 13, 2018.

Arrested/Bailed: Delroy Williams of Halfway Tree was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offence of Possession of Cannabis, Obstruction under the Drug Act and Making Use of Indecent Language.  He was granted bail in the sum of $7,000 for his appearance at the Dieppe Bay Magistrate Court on August 13, 2018.

Arrested/Bailed: Latisha Joshua of Upper Shaw Avenue was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Possession of Cannabis and Obstruction under the Drug Act. She was granted bail in the sum of $7,000 for her appearance at the Dieppe Bay Magistrate Court on August 13, 2018.

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

Marijuana Plants Uprooted: Officers from the Task Force Unit, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Violent Crime unit (VCU) and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) reported that they uprooted twenty-five (25) Cannabis plants ranging from one (1) foot to eight (8) feet in height. They were found growing in pots on two (2) plots of land in Bath Village.

Officers from the District A patrol reported that they uprooted eighty-two (82) mature marijuana plants in Hermitage, Cayon.

Search Warrants Executed: Police executed several search warrants during the period of this report. Warrants were executed on properties in the following areas: Rawlins Village, Conaree Village, Manchester Avenue and Lower Cayon.

REPORT OF ARRESTS, CONVICTIONS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 02, 2018 (RSCNPF): Below is a report of arrests, convictions and other activities recorded by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for the period June 28-29, 2018.

ARRESTS AND BAIL:

Arrested: Tahirah Tyson of Station Street, Old Road was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offence of Larceny committed between June 01, 2017 and February 06, 2018.

Arrested: Raheem Browne of Conaree was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Driving Without Insurance and Driving Without a Valid and Unexpired Driver’s License.

Arrested: Sheron Audain Raposo De-Leon of Upper Malone Avenue was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Larceny and Receiving.

Arrested/Bailed: Stanley Hopson of Keys Village was arrested, formally charged and cautioned for the offences of Driving Without a Valid and Unexpired Driver’s License and Driving Without Insurance. He was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 for his appearance at the Basseterre Magistrate Court on July 05, 2018.

COURT CONVICTION:

In matters at the Basseterre Magistrate Court, presided over by His Honour Reynold Benjamin, the following convictions were reported:

– Mc Harold Wilson of Lodge Project was convicted and fined $150 to be paid  in seven (7) days or, in default, serve fourteen (14) days in prison for stopping to allow passengers to get off in an area not designated for such;

– Mechiel Francis of St. Johnston Village for the offence of Failing to Comply with Traffic Directions Given by Traffic Sign;

– David Jarvis of Bamboo Terrace Housing, Molineaux was convicted and cautioned for allowing passengers to get out in an area not designated for such;

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

Search Warrants Executed: Police executed several search warrants during the period of this report. Warrants were executed on properties in the following areas: Lower Shaw Avenue, Sandy Point, Conaree Dorset Village, Mad House and Pitcairn Street (Newtown).
