St. Kitts And Nevis Holds National Consultation On The Basel Conventio

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 27, 2017 (SKNIS): Approximately twenty persons representing various governmental and non-governmental stakeholder agencies assembled at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI) to participate in a one-day national consultation workshop on the Basel Convention and facilitation of the entry into force of the Ban Amendment.

The workshop was organized by the Department of Environment in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention (BRSC) of the United Nation’s Environment Programme. It focused on raising awareness of the Basel Convention and the Ban Amendment and other related international agreements and arrangements (Stockholm, Rotterdam and Minimata Conventions); providing assistance to St. Kitts and Nevis to ratify the Ban Amendment and in implementing the Basel Convention; encouraging exchange of information and experiences and; supporting the development of recommendations for implementation of the Conventions

Alistair Edwards, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment et.al, underscored the significant importance of the workshop and in particular, the BRS Conventions.

MINISTER GRANT ATTENDS FIRST COMMONWEALTH TRADE MINISTERS MEETING

London, UK. Minister Grant arrived in London, England to participate in the first Commonwealth Trade Ministers Meeting.

The Ministerial Meeting organised by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council brings together Trade Ministers from across the Commonwealth over a four-day period to discuss harnessing the Commonwealth advantage in a changing global trade landscape.

Minsters are also expected to explore how they can leverage opportunities and address challenges to intra-Commonwealth trade and investment and to look at preparations for the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting scheduled for London in 2018.

The Caribbean’s Only Billionaires are St.Kitts-Nevis Citizens

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Mon. Mar. 27, 2017: The Caribbean has gone from zero to two billionaires according to the latest rich list from Forbes Magazine.

Even though both billionaires were not born in the Caribbean, both claim Caribbean citizenship in the island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis, thanks to the country’s Citizenship by Investment Program.

CIBC FirstCaribbean Marks International Women’s Day

(PRESS RELEASE) On March 8th 2017, CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank joined the international community in paying homage to its female members of staff in recognition of International Women’s Day.

To mark the special occasion the bank presented a rose along with a token of appreciation to each female member of staff. Business Support Officer, Jewel Wattley, reiterated the bank’s commitment to promoting gender equality.

“We are indeed pleased to reward our female members of staff with this small token of appreciation particularly since women make up 66% of the CIBC FirstCaribbean workforce. International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 each year and marked by CIBC FirstCaribbean throughout the region. This global movement celebrates the social, economic and political achievements of women throughout the world.

This year the theme for International Women’s Day was “Be Bold for Change” – which challenged women to take bold action to challenge social rules and break down gender barriers.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua — The government of Antigua and Barbuda has announced the appointment of the first national of Antigua and Barbuda, Charmaine Quinland-Donovan, to head the country’s important Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU).

Quinland-Donovan’s appointment takes effect from March 27.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of a qualified and capable national of Antigua and Barbuda to lead the Citizenship by Investment Unit. I am doubly pleased that the appointee is a woman. This emphasizes my government’s commitment to advancing women in decision-making roles in our society.”

The prime minister drew attention to Quinland-Donovan’s previous service in the CIU in three important capacities as chief compliance officer, chief operating officer and acting chief executive officer.

“In this regard,” the prime minister explained, “Ms Quinland-Donovan brings substantial knowledge and experience to the vital work of the Unit, together with keen understanding of international best practices to maintain and improve the standing of our nation’s citizenship by investment programme.”

Quinland-Donovan holds a BSc with first class honours from the University of the West Indies. She is also a chartered director and a fully qualified anti-money laundering specialist. Quinland- Donovan was employed at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank for almost nine years, during which she served as bank examiner, supervised/regulated licensed financial institutions in the ECCU, led examination teams and worked with the Eastern Caribbean Securities Regulatory Unit. She has also worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia, where she was head of compliance for the Eastern Caribbean Region responsible for nine countries including St Maarten.

“Therefore, Ms Quinland Donovan comes with a wealth of banking experience that will inure to the benefit of the Citizenship by Investment Unit,” prime minister said.

“Given Ms Quinalnd-Donovan’s training and experience, out international partners can be assured of the integrity of our CIP and its safeguards against money-laundering, counter terrorism financing and the security of other nations,” Browne added.
